calyxa: hey...
01.02.29 docmojo: tried animating recently?
calyxa: yeah, my moss didn't move like I thought it was going to, tho
01.02.46 docmojo: the time node--and spactime--seem to be doing nothing.
calyxa: my shadows moved...?
01.03.08 docmojo: did you move the light?
calyxa: yes - but the sky didn't change color
calyxa: I thought maybe I hadn't moved it far enough and wrote it off...
01.04.03 docmojo: i been beatin at it and no joy...
01.04.15 docmojo: on two diff machines...
calyxa: hmm.

01.04.41 docmojo: hey, linda!
01.04.48 fractalinda: Hey Caly and Doc!
01.04.58 docmojo: how are ya?
calyxa: patrice(?) did that waves anim recently
01.05.04 fractalinda: Are we the only ones on board?
01.05.11 docmojo: so far, yes...
calyxa: yup... these things always start slow
01.05.17 fractalinda: Hi patrice!
01.05.29 docmojo: (not here yet)
01.05.41 fractalinda: What are we here for?
calyxa: the heck of it
calyxa: to ask and answer...
01.05.52 fractalinda: Great!
01.05.52 docmojo: i got to patrice's page and couldn't see which one was an animation...
01.06.04 docmojo: fire questions at us!
01.06.11 fractalinda: Yeah..I tried too..couldn't find it.
calyxa: it was in the bottom row, third from the left, I think... it's a confusing page.
01.06.34 docmojo: i was telling caly that the time node seems to be broken
01.06.49 docmojo: no animating textures...
01.06.49 fractalinda: Okay..When I'm working with materials, what's the significance of slope weight
calyxa: I can u/l my most recent anim, it's 2 megs tho
calyxa: slope weight - I'd have to cut-n-paste Craig's description and that's on the other machine...
calyxa: it's related to altitude...
01.07.26 docmojo: i've never used it, linda
01.07.26 fractalinda: maybe you could email the info?
calyxa: something like "things above the altitude of the slope weight are shaded as if they're at sea level" ... I'll post it to 3dC
01.07.54 fractalinda: Well, if you've not used it, maybe it's not too significant:?
01.08.19 fractalinda: Okie-dokie..thanks!

calyxa: you missed Linda, though
01.22.26 docmojo: what tiem is it there?
01.23.02 docmojo: patrice, did you use the time node and get a sucesful animation with 1.2?
01.23.10 docmojo: it's busted for me here
01.23.17 docmojo: doesn't seem to do anything...
01.23.52 docmojo: we're getting a fair number of hits from Isreal now
calyxa: I u/l my moss movie that I made a couple days ago.. didn't come out like I expected, but there is motion
01.24.00 docmojo: they should mojo, not kick ass
01.24.17 pushinfaders: Cool
01.24.17 docmojo: fised camera?
calyxa: http://calyxa.pandromeda.com/moss.mov - 2 megs.
01.24.25 docmojo: "Fixed"
calyxa: yes, fixed camera
01.24.42 paf75fr: of course don t you see my 'merci' ? check this on the section ' last work ' it called "la isla bonita ' with very small waves to try but it works properly !
calyxa: I saw it, it was nice
01.25.11 docmojo: that other url of yours is COOL, caly!
calyxa: the lathe thing?
01.25.24 docmojo: yeah
calyxa: I was so happy to have that finally render close to right...
01.25.28 paf75fr: url www.paf75fr.com as usual take care of cable xdsl only ! doc '
01.25.39 docmojo: i couldn't figure out which one it was, patrice
calyxa: look for the name, la isla bonita - that's how I found it.
01.26.35 pushinfaders: I need a laptop so i can work on stuff on the road
01.26.38 docmojo: your cloud shadows are flyin' along, caly
01.26.52 docmojo: it's great having one
calyxa: yeah, but the sky isn't changing color... and the moss isn't moving...
01.27.00 docmojo: i have a 1 ghz p3
01.27.09 pushinfaders: Cool
calyxa: here's an earlier version of the lathe render that didn't work - http://calyxa.pandromeda.com/hahanotquite.jpg
01.29.08 pushinfaders: What does using a fractal for sky color do? I'm not getting that
01.29.09 docmojo: your animated water is great, patrice!
01.29.19 paf75fr: what is the technique used to do that Caltxa ? Did you add displacements on clouds ... nice idea to add these shadows on mountains!
calyxa: the clouds have an offset and that offset itself is offset...
01.30.16 docmojo: pf, you mean on the sky background?
01.30.21 pushinfaders: yeah
calyxa: sky color - in the backdrop? that's where you'd make stars or any other outer-space type effect
01.30.28 docmojo: it can give you clouds at infinity,
01.30.32 docmojo: or nebuale
01.30.50 pushinfaders: oh ok
01.31.25 docmojo: that's a funnrender, caly
01.31.35 docmojo: funny render
calyxa: the only thing moving in that anim of mine was the sun - but the moss on the hill was supposed to move because it is blended with the stone using one of my new plugins, the sun direction...
01.31.49 paf75fr: You know colleagues, it s the work of mojo generator I just put parameters, the more important work has been done by developers doc' , the spacetime identitie is quite magic !
calyxa: indeed!
01.32.25 docmojo: yeah, i do think it's pretty neat taht everything is in 4D under the hood
calyxa: here's another failed lathe render (I kept uploading these to give Craig a laugh) - believe it or not, I considered this one closer to being right than the last one - http://calyxa.pandromeda.com/stillnotright.jpg
01.32.45 docmojo: but I CAN'T GET IT TO WORK TODAY
01.33.13 docmojo: failed renders can be fun... love that one!
01.33.35 pushinfaders: Oh I created a huge mess today!!
01.33.44 paf75fr: good idea caly to move the sun hihihi I really do not thinking about this basic , nice move ! Question : Is the 'clock who appears onto channel chat is the current time for you ? here : 03h28 am nobody on street cool to work !
calyxa: it's supposed to be UTC, it calculates it based on your current system time and time zone.
01.34.30 docmojo: what manner of mess, pf?
calyxa: of course, I have my system set to NZ time, so when I post these logs to my web page, the times don't make a whole lot of sense...
01.35.33 pushinfaders: Just experimenting, lwith some voronoi basis stuff, made cool rocks, but it went nuts when ya got close
calyxa: that'll be true of any displacement - a general rule is that your displacement should be no more than about half the distance of the camera to the surface.
01.36.31 pushinfaders: it looked cool froma distance
01.36.33 docmojo: yep. nothin to be donne about that, that we can figure out
calyxa: if I can figure out a camera altitude node.... then displacements can be driven w/ a function so that they shrink accordingly.
01.37.06 pushinfaders: no, biggie, thats' why ya experiment
01.37.08 docmojo: i'm slpping up what i hoped to animate today...
01.37.43 docmojo: mojoworld is a great place to experiment!
calyxa: it'll be cool when a lot of folks are doing SDK stuff
01.38.41 pushinfaders: I'd like to see some atmospheric plugins
01.39.16 paf75fr: Is anybody see the software for family call Eingana ? so strange it comes from geo and looking for a entire planet area with animals and trees... who worked on this product ? it s a liitle mojo transporter

calyxa: I'm pretty stoked that I was able to "fix" a "bug" ;)
01.46.19 docmojo: cool!
01.46.28 pushinfaders: What got me hooked, was the quality of the renders, using the 1st transporter, it was all over after that

calyxa: and it's HUGE
01.56.25 docmojo: i was trying to make it DO something

02.25.17 paf75fr: sorry just talking about the main program

02.26.18 paf75fr: calyxa & pushinfaders where are you comes from ( I join the channel later ) ?

02.35.36 pushinfaders: at least Mo signed off before he went to bed this time
calyxa: hehe.
02.35.43 pushinfaders: :-)
calyxa: are you saying that all of France takes a vacation at the same time?
calyxa: I wanted to make sure it was visible, so that's why it has all the ###'s in it... and I wanted to make sure the timing was clear, so I had to mention more than one common time zone... do you have suggestions on how I should do the next one?
02.37.59 paf75fr: It is look like summer vacation at may incredible ! ):-
02.38.11 paf75fr: what is the alert msg ?
calyxa: type a slash and the letters motd in the transmit area - /motd

- ###### END ALERT! ######
pushinfaders has quit MojoVox.
02.40.24 paf75fr: seems the chat area is very restricted ! I suggest to say bye in a few minutes ok ? Is there a lot of people other times ?
calyxa: there have been times when a lot of people have shown up. but it has been a while...
calyxa: I'd suggest just showing up any old time and if no-one is here, create a room and wait for a while. I know people check fairly regularly.
02.42.36 paf75fr: Ok for me good suggest'.
calyxa: Bob Buttery is often here during European hours (he is in the UK)
02.43.18 paf75fr: I saw yours pictures on the pandromeda site interesting. Do you work with the team ?
calyxa: yes, I wrote some parts of the manual and did a lot of early testing and do most of the tech support
calyxa: http://calyxa.best.vwh.net/private/mw/pandrocrew.jpg
02.44.30 paf75fr: It s a ver good idea ! it is not really easy for me because of gmt ! I wanna go to sleep asap 04h40 am here and you ?

orchiddave has joined Holiday
02.45.41 paf75fr: whouaa ! ok I finish my cofee... thanks for the quality of the manual to you and everybody too!
calyxa: Dave, there ya are!
02.45.48 orchiddave: Howdy folks
02.45.57 paf75fr: hi you !
calyxa: is the time zone thing too confusing? things are winding down...
02.46.16 orchiddave: I was out drinking beers...
calyxa: ah
02.46.48 orchiddave: I have some questions for you Caly
calyxa: OK
02.47.06 orchiddave: one sec
02.49.06 orchiddave: I am testing the starships for 3dc & have encountered a few bugs
calyxa: such as?
02.50.32 orchiddave: when I import the meshes as soon as I start dragging to enlarge the mesh...it moves the planet instead and the mesh is miniscule...really hard to move into place
calyxa: they are library items, which mean they are pre-sized - they don't drag-size...
02.51.46 orchiddave: ok...bummer
calyxa: click to place. then, to resize, select them and use the transform tools... but according to Larry, they're supposed to be scaled "the way they are"
02.52.31 orchiddave: I also found that when you try to manuever close to them that they disappear from view
02.52.54 orchiddave: until you render
calyxa: yes, that's the clipping plane issue - the RTR has to clip, the final render doesn't -- I have some comments on that in my Poser tutorial
02.53.29 orchiddave: it's almost like they are too close to the camera & coming thru the lens
calyxa: a way around that is to use a camera with a really narrow field of view
02.53.47 orchiddave: ok
02.54.33 orchiddave: I did report one bug...the one called aurora was looking for bmp's when they provided jpgs
calyxa: I'm sure Larry will fix that.
02.55.46 orchiddave: I also found it hard to see them in my renders...had to use lighting or only place on the sunny side of a planet
02.56.29 orchiddave: other 3d meshes seem easier to manipulate & light up better
calyxa: hmm. not sure what's up with that. I may have to try some things w/ moonlights and nighttime and a starship...
02.58.05 paf75fr: I ' wanna looking for logs report tomorow, sorry I'm asleep it is 05h00 am and go to bed, have a nice evening ! ):- Paf from Paris
02.58.17 orchiddave: Try putting them a little out in space...they disappear...but I put a 3ds mesh of a starship at same altitude & it showed up
calyxa: good night, Patrice!
02.58.26 paf75fr: thanks bye
02.58.31 orchiddave: Bye Paf
02.58.38 paf75fr: ):-
paf75fr has left channel Holiday
calyxa: they are 3ds's, just saved in MW library format w/ textures...
03.00.35 orchiddave: ya I gathered that...they just act kinda weird...I'm going to test them over the weekend & let 3dc know what I think next week
03.01.10 orchiddave: I'm testing them on this weeks challenge...Dale...great planet
calyxa: I haven't had time to look at them... tho I visited Larry in person to get his 1.2 installed
03.01.29 orchiddave: cool
calyxa: (he's only about an hour from here, not 7 like you are ;)
03.02.19 orchiddave: lol...did he render his pics he posted in mojo? they look like they were done post mojo
calyxa: yes, I'm pretty sure they're all native mojo renders
03.03.22 orchiddave: he must have used a lot of lights...or had them in full sun
calyxa: pretty sure it's all full sun stuff.
03.04.31 orchiddave: I need to go stir the tomato sauce & put some water on for pasta...mack in 5 if you can wait
03.04.44 orchiddave: oops...back
calyxa: yeah, tho I need to take off in about 15...
03.04.54 orchiddave: ok...brb
03.09.48 orchiddave: I'm back
03.10.04 orchiddave: gotta god dinner cooking
calyxa: any more q's?
calyxa: I ate before 'vox...
03.10.27 orchiddave: no...I think I covered it
03.10.40 orchiddave: I'll keep testing them
calyxa: what's your general impression of them so far?
03.11.33 orchiddave: well I wish that all 3d meshes in MW would anti alias better on normal render settings
03.11.58 orchiddave: they look kinda jagged in my renders
calyxa: any straight edge is going to require serious aa... have you compared to a box primitive?
03.12.46 orchiddave: I find they are hard to place in MW...kinda look out of place...I'll keep trying though
03.13.06 orchiddave: no..haven't tried those yet
calyxa: I think you'll find it's the straight edges more than it being an import... also try the narrow field of view camera, that should help w/ moving stuff. also use multiple cameras - I usually have at least 2 when I'm placing objects.
03.14.53 orchiddave: Geez...I haven't ever tried other cameras...I use whatever is default...lol
calyxa: depending on what planet you're working in, the default camera may have a FOV of 90 degrees, which would make placing objects pretty tough!
03.16.07 orchiddave: I still have no clue what half the shit in this program does...I just make awesome pics with it
calyxa: heheh.
calyxa: well, I need to head out... enjoy your dinner!
03.17.51 orchiddave: I can't understand what most of the settings do in the texture editors ...I just try stuff
03.18.14 orchiddave: OK...Thanks...good to chat even if it was quick
03.18.27 orchiddave: Have a good night
calyxa: same time next week... and random times between now & then... thanks, you too.
calyxa: bye!
