Generator Tutorials
MojoWorld Generator can be quite a daunting place. I hope the
tutorials I post here will help de-mystify it somewhat. The
first offering I have is a collaborative effort with Doc Mojo
explaining how to use and get the most out of the
new Latitude space coordinates available with MojoWorld 1.1.
Update - 17 Feb 2002 - I've collected enough of these that
I probably ought to impose some sort of sectional ordering
on them, so this list has been re-deranged and has had the
Pro UI tutorials integrated into it, as well as having
the new "Sample Worlds Torn Apart w/ guest tutorialist
Chris Drake" added.
Basic Introductions
- Sample Worlds Torn Apart
is a detailed look at the parameters of the original 1.0 default
planet - as seen through the eyes of a novice MojoWorld user.
Many thanks to my guest tutorialist, Chris Drake, for writing
this up!
Rendering Tricks
- Mask Rendering describes
how to modify a copy of your planet so that you can create a
mask render to mask the terrain, sky or ocean.
- World Maps is a
trick on how to use the world export function in order to
create a world map of your MojoWorld planets. It's not one
of your standard map projections, but I think you'll find
it's close enough to be useful.
Input Coordinates
- Latitude Space - Doc
Mojo explains how to use Latitude Space, with comments and
screenshots.
- Coordinate Systems
explains the differences between World Position, Surface Position
and Object Position.
Terrains
- Shaping Terrains with Bitmap
Heightfields explains how to use a bitmap inside of a
parameter bomb to give a very specific shape to a portion of
the planet.
- Function Graphs 101 or
"How to not make a flat planet" - an introduction to
the Pro UI, how to make terrains using function graphs.
- Krummen Hacker InterPlanetary
Airport is all about how to integrate Krummen Hacker's amazing
Pro-UI airport with the planet of your choice. It also contains
a little tidbit about how to save a function to a library file by
converting it to a texture first.
Texturing Imports
Animation
- Choose A Codec is a quick
road-map to finding the Render Settings dialog which includes
the File Handler options for selecting a codec other than the
default.
- Blending Time is a subversive
Pro UI tutorial. It's about animation for the pioneering Graph Monkey,
how to animate things other than just flight paths. Make a sunset
by driving the sun's orbit position with a function graph using
the mysterious Time node.
