Sample Worlds Torn Apart

With many thanks to Chris Drake, who did all the hard work and wrote the text and took the screenshots, what follows is a discussion of the default world from version 1.0, as seen through the eyes of a beginner. I've made some small changes to Chris' text, but not so much so that I need to point out where my comments are (except for that one bit in the page about the sky, wow! talk about a blast from the past!).

Chris, you have the floor!

This is not exactly a tutorial - more of a discussion of some existing MojoWorld files, their settings, and what those actually mean. It is hoped that by examining some "real" worlds in detail the workings of the functions, parameters, graphs and other tools will become more apparent. We'll see.

Let's start more or less at the beginning and look at the basic Generator functions. These worlds don't use the too much of the Pro UI in many cases, and this won't attempt to get down that far into the inner workings. This is just a document for beginners.

This is not a "how to" and it assumes that the basic MW manual has been scanned, so terms like "kickstand" are familiar.

The original "default world" for MW 1.0, named simple.mjw, is a good starting point. (Download the .mjw file.) The examples in the manual refer to this world (which can be slightly confusing for users of MW 1.1, since some of the numbers in the tutorials don't work out very well in the newer default.mjw). Here we have high mountains of 40,000 meters or more, snow covered peaks, green hills below, and an ocean.
